San Antonio, TX

In October I went to a convention in San Antonio, it was a good convention and a huge convention center. The first impression of the city is there are a lot of one way streets and a lot of different parking garages, which is pretty normal for a bigger city. I got used to the one way streets because thankfully there are many smaller streets that connect them so I went in circles a lot.

I also learned that shopping around parking garages is a good idea, day one I parked in the first garage I saw which cost me 40$ for the day. The second day I found the convention center lot and it was 10$ a day. I also stopped by the local mall after and even after loosing my parking ticket it was 5$. So, at first glance, parking was expensive but it isn’t that bad if you scout out the garage options.

I tried many food options in San Antonio, though I did end up eating at the convention center a lot since it was convenient and free. The highlights where local tacos, which were very good. I also had a fancy dinner thanks to a company we work with, open bar and great food! I also tried a chicken sandwich shop, and got some chips and dip at the airport. Sorry I don’t have more detail here, I didn’t log the names of restaurants like I should have. But the food here was great!

I spent most of my time here in the convention itself, and I walked so much that I was exhausted after, but some other highlights are the Alamo, it was closed when I tried to stop by but I drove past it. I am surprised that its in the middle of the city, surrounded by mostly modern buildings, but there are a few older buildings and its always fun to see old architecture. There was also apparently a haunted hotel there, I didn’t stay there but maybe I’ll visit it someday! I also saw the Riverwalk, the convention center was right on it, and there were boat tours for it which is pretty cool.

All in all the weather was hot and dry, but sunny and bright. There was always the sound of birds singing and people bustling about. It was a nice trip and would definitely visit again if I get the chance.
